LEEDIR | The Eyewitness Platform for Large Emergency Events
LEEDIR (Large Emergency Event Digital Information Repository) is an eyewitness photo and video platform that can be activated for FREE by law enforcement and relief agencies during a major emergency event. Immediately after activation, the LEEDIR iPhone app, Android app and website are available to receive uploads from citizens.
The administrative media management/analysis interfaces for particiapting agencies are also made available. Expandable cloud server infrastructure is launched and ready to process virtually unlimited amounts of photo and video submissions.
Immediately following the bombings at the Boston Marathon, law enforcement requested the public to submit eyewitness pictures and videos to assist in the investigation. The public's response was overwhelming - with thousands of valuable pictures and videos being submitted.
However, law enforcement agencies were not able to quickly analyze this important information - as their server infrastructure couldn't handle the volume of submissions. In order to address this issue (i.e., highly scalable server infrastructure to handle extremely large volumes), as well as enable the;
(i) transfer of large size files (often blocked by email systems),
(ii) collaborative analysis,
(iii) automatic video transcoding,
(iv) cloud storage and
(v) managerial/curation tools, a private sector solution was sought.
When a large emergency event occurs, law enforcement and relief agencies can request the rapid activation of the LEEDIR platform for FREE to start receiving and analyzing eyewitness photos and videos.
